Step Through The Portal - Back to the Woods

THE INVITATION

A weekend of fire, mask making, music, ritual and mischief in Wales

Somewhere along the way, we forgot how to play.

We got busy, sensible and distracted from the magic in every moment. We learned to keep our voices down and tuck our wildness away where nobody could see it. We started saving joy for special occasions, like it might run out.

But there is a part of you that still remembers, it's the same part that feels the story you're reading and invites you to be part of it.

The child who talked to trees and was certain the faeries were real because they are.

The one who danced without checking who was watching first, and sang just because the fire was warm and the night was long.

SECURE YOUR SPOT AT NOL I COED

There is a saying in the old language of Cymru

dod yn ôl at fy nghoed

It means "to come back to my trees."

And it means more than the woods. It means coming home to yourself. Back to a calm, steady mind. Back to the version of you that feels whole, playful, and at one with the wild and mythic-world we are all a part of.

That is what this weekend is for.

WHAT IS Nôl i Coed?

Nôl i Coed is a weekend all inclusive retreat in the unspoilt cacoon that is Coeh Hills Rural Artspace, spent relating to each other and the land in ways that our ancestors knew by heart.

Land into a realm of fire and story, birth masks made from the land, revealing the ever shape-shifting essence of your soul, reflecting the many mythic archetypes of land and legend from Cymru.

Live music you can feel in your bones. Dancing, silence, poetry in the woods, barefoot upon the stone circle. And a group of folks who understand you without much explaining.

It is a return to joy as a spiritual practice. To play as something sacred, and to living Welsh culture, sung and danced and eaten around a hearth.

You do not have to arrive as anything other than your unique you. No experience needed. No polished spiritual self required. Just you, and the part of you that has been longing for this.

I WANT THIS SOUL DEEP

YOUR HOME FOR THE WEEKEND

Coed Hills is a place unlike anywhere else, an eco-community spread across more than 100 acres of woodland and countryside, home to its own stone circle built in the early 2000's with sacred intention, a lake, pond, meadow, and a beautiful wooden barn space. There's a woodland classroom, wood-fired saunas, and fire pits ready for ancestral and bardic gatherings under an open sky.

From the stone circle, the view stretches clean across the Severn channel across to Devon, one of those views that stops conversation. Nearby, a forest garden of medicinal and edible plants is tended by the community's own gardeners, one of many quiet things here worth discovering.

Accommodation ranges from quirky cabins and a rustic yurt to cosy pods and a large camping field, with showers, toilet facilities and a wood-fired sauna all on site.

You'll feel the land the moment you arrive. As autumn settles in, the last wildflowers and herbs, the bees and butterflies still on the wing, and the birds overhead all greet you — and the sunsets from the stone circle, as the sun drops low across the valley, are nothing short of magnificent.

The Weekend

Friday - Gather at the Fire
We begin the way our ancestors always did. Fire lit, stories told, and the first wyrd tales shared as strangers become a circle.

Saturday - Make Your Mask, Find Your Wild
A live Welsh storytelling and mythic journey inward to meet the spirit of your mask, then hands in the earth as you craft a mask from natural materials. As dusk falls, the sound of the ancient carnyx leads you down to the Welsh ritual band Mwsog, and you dance, masked and wild, into the night.

Sunday - The Quiet Woods & Mytho-Poetic Play

A silent retreat morning that includes a mugwort sound ceremony, guided sensory walk, and a land-poetry writing session A morning of silence, sound and a slow walk through the wild places. Perhaps poetry rises out of the stillness, what do the stones have to teach you, what mushrooms can be found in the woods? We close as we began, around the fire, before the last night opens into a Noson Llawen: a merry night of song and story, made together.

By Monday, you leave transformed, present, and alive with mythic remembering, reconnected to the land, to Welsh myth and culture, and to the part of yourself that belongs to something older than you.

Testimonies

— Beckie

"What an incredible retreat. A beautiful place for us to stay. The food was amazing, and Victoria managed to hold space, create deeply impactful rituals and ceremonies, whilst still giving us plenty of time to explore and integrate. I feel absolutely nourished."

— Sophie

"I loved that we were such a diverse group, and I have taken so much away from what was planned, and also just the organic moments and chats too. The flexibility and the way the weekend adapted to the group allowed for so much more flow and enjoyment."

— Sam

"A remarkable grounding presence that instantly put us at ease, and the ambiance was nothing short of magical. We indulged in delicious, freshly prepared meals by the talented chef, which set the perfect backdrop for our gatherings."
